HISTORY
Born and raised in California, I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in music. I studied voice with Susan Gundunas and Anna Carol Dudley and was involved in these choirs:
YIGC (Young Inspirational Gospel Choir), one of the most prestigious gospel choir in the nation directed by Professor Henderson. Unfortunately, the choir no longer exists but Henderson is still teaching music and managing the music department at Los Medanos College in Pittsburgh, CA.
University Chorus “performs literature from the standard choral-orchestral repertoire to contemporary music. Along with concerts on campus under its director Marika Kuzma, the chorus has been invited to perform with the Midsummer Mozart Festival under George Cleve (Beethoven Ninth Symphony), the Oakland-East Bay Symphony under Michael Morgan (Gershwin Porgy & Bess), and with the Berkeley Symphony under Kent Nagano (Vaughan Williams Flos campi). Its concerts have met with enthusiastic audiences and favorable reviews from the local press.” (music.berkeley.edu/chorus.html
DeCadence is an A Capella group performing on campus and hold several concerts throughout each semester. The group arranges popular tunes into SATB parts and performs with beat boxing! All A Capella.
Opera is something I’ve also done. I did not go as far as being in a production, but aside from singing arias at school, I did audition for a summer workshop TANNEN OPERA directed by Raeeka Shehabi-Yaghmai back in 2005 and was accepted. TANEEN OPERA was a two-week summer intensive performance workshop for singers to gain experience in stage presence and movement while singing in opera scenes. These Master Classes were taught by successful singers in the industry: Jane Randolph, Susan Gundunas, Brian Staufenbiel, and Krista Wigle.
I was Poppea in Poppea, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, and the chorus for Candide. We had a very successful performance at the end of the session.
